A great option is to evade the crowds and just amble through the Vatican Museums – inside you can find wonders such as the Pinecone Courtyard or the Octagonal Courtyard. Then go to the Hall of the Muses which holds a set of statues found in the Villa of Cassius near Tivoli. Be careful that when you reach the Round Hall with its colossal red porphyry basin flanked by mosaic floors, someone could be drawing your attention to Michelangelo Simonetti's masterpiece, the Greek Cross Room. Pass through two feasts for the eyes - the Gallery of Candelabra and the Gallery of Tapestries and see for yourself what is on offer there.
Stop in one corner where there is a beautiful old map collection on display in a private gallery made for Pope Gregory XIII. Continue your visit to the Sistine Chapel, and you will get to know how Michelangelo labored for years to produce this masterpiece.
