The trip of a tourist to Rome cannot be completed without going to the Vatican city, known as the Holy City. It is indeed said to be the tiniest independent state in the world — where the Pope lives and which is considered the centre of Catholicism. There are plenty of good reasons why one should visit the Vatican; despite being such a small city it is full of attractions plus points of interest with its valuable artworks and history. Thousands go every year to that tiny state to admire the beautiful Saint Peter’s basilica plus square which is, undoubtedly, among the most beautiful cathedrals in this world since construction took place between 1506 until 1626 under several different popes' supervision. The Sistine Chapel presents an impressive piece of artwork realized back in 1473— apart from its history and art it also has another importance: during Papal conclaves it is where new Popes are chosen by Cardinals who meet there. Michelangelo painted the famous frescoes that illustrated stories from both the Old and New Testaments, as well as "The Last Judgement." If you are not a religious individual, but a glance at these frescoes will leave you impressed by their beauty.
