Morning. The tour begins at the Colosseum more correctly called the Flavian Amphitheater after the imperial family who built this oval-shaped structure within a quite remarkable span of eight years, from 72 to 80 AD.
The massive building got its nickname from the Colossus, a statue standing 35 meters tall that represented Emperor Nero, with up to 70,000 people being accommodated there.
Over the centuries it has come down to us as the place for wild and savage shows between men and animals as well as between man and man (very graphically in the film Gladiator).
Just across from it stands what was considered to be actually Rome's political, commercial, social, and religious center during Monarchy and Republican times.
The ancient cobblestones of the 'Via Sacra' still lead to Capitol Hill, which one can walk upon while viewing the remains of its ancient basilicas and triumphal arches, honorary columns, and marketplaces.
It is lunchtime.
You will be taken to the meeting point of the Vatican Museums by deluxe minivan, where you can see Triumphal Market — it is the most popular and ancient market of Rome.
Inside this market, there will be an opportunity to taste typical recipes from Roman gastronomy.
Our assistant will guide you in finding the best choices according to your preferences.
Good afternoon.
Begin your tour of the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel by appreciating the most famous masterpieces of Michelangelo.
As you walk, see the private art collection-the largest in the world-that was intended solely for the viewing pleasure of His Holiness.
Through the Rooms of Raphael-a sequence of four interconnecting rooms elaborately decorated by Raphael and his pupils-you find yourself gazing upon, perhaps, one of the most beautiful surprises in all architecture: The Sistine Chapel Holy Chapel to the Pope.
Here is also where you can view some of what are considered among M.Vasari's most highly esteemed works within these very walls: Michelangelo's prime frescoes-within which you will find 'The Creation of the World' and 'The Last Judgment'-as well as others by such great artists as Perugino, Botticelli, and Ghirlandaio, to name but a few.
Clothing must be appropriate for entry into the Vatican Museums.
Shorts, mini skirts, and sleeveless clothing are not permitted.
NOTE: - With the new rules of the museums,͏ it is obligatory that tickets are personalized and matched with the identity document.
