Just next to the Sistine Chapel, there are private papal apartments, known as Raphael Rooms.

Room and its contents are sumptuously adorned-most from the hand of Raphael-the celebrated “School of Athens,” in which most of the famous philosophers of antiquity are gathered in one ‘school photograph’ several in fact contemporaries to Raphael’s time.

Don’t make the mistake of racing through the Raphael Rooms on your way to the Sistine; it deserves far more than a cursory glance.

A good guide will give you plenty of time to bask in the masterpieces of Raphaels.

An excellent opportunity to see the ‘real’ great ancient sculptures including the Laocoon and Apollo Belvedere.

You can pass through the famous Gallery of Maps, visit Belvedere Courtyard and the Pinecone Courtyard.
