Nowhere else in the world can compare with the quality and richness of the collections at the Vatican: where else, after all, could one see at their very height the artistry of Michelangelo and Raphael, the finest sculptures from antiquity, priceless tapestries, Renaissance cartography, and stunning architectural works from the Renaissance (all under one roof)? Enjoy having a private guide who is an art historian to lead you through Michelangelo's miraculous works in the Sistine Chapel with those of Raphael’s amazing frescoes.
Step right into that fascinating story of history’s brightest moment—otherwise known as the Renaissance—with our expert bringing vividly to life all that past, in a visit geared to your particular interests.
Skip Saint Peter’s lines to enter and see Michelangelo's moving Pietà together with Bernini's huge canopy over St.
Peter's altar.
Led by expert guides, you will see the great architectural works of the Italian Renaissance feel the mood of Michelangelo's work between the Florentine Renaissance and the Papal court at Rome.
The meaning of these figures on the Sistine Chapel Ceiling Jonah Adam Eve Noah and many more will be discussed in our special Vatican Tour together with some of the themes that are represented in the Last Judgement.
That tour will bring you a little closer to Michelangelo's ideals and those of Renaissance Humanism plus an understanding of how these frescoes changed forever not just one small field of painting but our very way of looking at the world.
Some of the great works we shall see are those lasting Greek masterworks: the Laocoon, the Belvedere Torso, and the Apollo Belvedere—discovered in the time of Michelangelo and Raphael and studied and admired by those very artists in much the same architectural setting where they are today.
The products wrought at their hands’ scrutiny lay before us, so we too shall walk through the Pinecone courtyard, across that of Belvedere, then into tapestry galleries to rediscover some masterpieces with a guide capable enough to bring alive that epoch thereby helping put into their true context both Raphael Rooms and Sistine Chapel.
The last part of our described visit will be sitting at St.
Peter’s Basilica.
It will bring us right into the heart of Christian faith with an unbelievable gathering of relics and religious artifacts that have been collected for almost 2,000 years at the place where St.
Peter was buried.
