The Vatican Museums hold about 70,000 works of art. It is fair to say that it is one of the largest museum complexes in the world. After a short presentation in the Pigna courtyard, where you will be able to see some masterpieces like Laocoön and Belvedere Torso — noted for their realism and anatomical details that were appreciated and studied by Michelangelo (who was not jokingly called "the student of the Torso") — the visit goes through candelabra gallery, tapestries and maps room by room on the second floor until you reach Raphael's decorations together with his assistants' work in Julius II 'terrible' Pope apartments belonging to Rovere family. The conclusion of the pathway leads to the Sistine Chapel where you will be introduced to that sacred place which is used for the election of Popes and admire both the vault fresco and The Last Judgment painted by Michelangelo. After leaving you enter St. Peter's Basilica to appreciate a piece of work from Michelangelo: Pietà.
