Know before you go
Reaching the Vatican Museums can be a bit tricky but here are some ways to do it:
Take the Metro line A and get off at Ottaviano - San Pietro Musei Vaticani station.
If you prefer taking the Tram, take number 19 and alight at Piazza del Risorgimento. You will then need to walk for about 10 minutes.
Another option is to take a Bus. Bus numbers 40 or 64 will take you to Piazza del Risorgimento. Alternatively, you can take routes 32, 81 or 982 that will also lead you to the terminus from where it's a 10-minute walk.
An interesting choice would be the Open Bus Vatican&Rome; hop off at either stop n°1 or n°16 which is located at LungoTevere Tor di Nona, just seven minutes away.
Remember that you need to pre-book your visit specifying the date and time as they do not allow visits on Sundays and during Vatican festivities.
