  • The Sistine Chapel is closed to the public. This closure began on April 21, following the death of Pope Francis, and will continue until May 7, when the papal conclave is scheduled to commence. The conclave, where cardinals will elect a new pope, will take place in the Sistine Chapel. You can still explore the extensive art collections within the Vatican Museums. However, access to the Sistine Chapel will not be possible until after the conclave concludes.
