The Vatican Museums are part of the most famous cultural heritage in the world, offering a unique journey through the fields of art, history, and spirituality over centuries.
The vast collections assembled by different popes over time contain some exceptional masterpieces from history.
Among them is where one finds glorious creations by legendary artists.
Notable highlights include Michelangelo’s breathtaking frescoes in the Sistine Chapel, Raphael’s extraordinary works in the Rooms of Raphael, and the splendid Gallery of Maps showing 16th-century cartographic representations of Italy.
Other major displays are in the Pio Clementino Museum; Gregorian Egyptian and Etruscan Museums; Chiaramonti Museum; and Pinacoteca, containing masterpieces by Raphael, Leonardo da Vinci, Giotto, and Perugino, to name a few.
An aperitif in the tranquil Pinecone Courtyard—300 square meters located next to these corridors and halls—would not detract from your experience.
The courtyard takes its name from the stunning bronze pine cone statue that has been prominently placed at its center, which rests atop a double ramp staircase designed by Michelangelo.
Your aperitif includes: 1 cocktail or soft drink, still or sparkling water, red pizzette, a choice of cheeses and cold cuts, Capressini fingers, porchetta di Ariccia with homemade bread, and rice and potato croquettes plus Mediterranean couscous.
Also take time to enjoy another great sculpture inside the courtyard: "Sphere Within Sphere" made by Italian artist Arnaldo Pomodoro donated to Vatican Museums in 1990.
This is a round sculpture that rotates and it moves with the wind showing the constant change of the world around it.
