Charity is, of course, the very heart of Christian living. Yet if we were to look at the meaning of pilgrimage and even more so of the indulgence of a Jubilee, without understanding what a great role charity plays in all this, we would make a great mistake by considering them mere magical ceremonies. Charity is also the firstest testimony of Christian faith and its singular trustworthiness. It is in this context of Jubilee that one has to recall the call of the apostle Peter: "Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another because love covers a multitude of sins" (1 Pet. 4:8).
Whoever says that they believe, sans also expressing love for their neighbor, isn't and won't be an actual disciple of Jesus Christ. Therefore, nobody might make a declaration about loving without including faith. The Christian identity, as per the Apostle Paul, combines these two components—faith and love. Love inspires perfection (see Col. 3:14), while faith inspires the growth of love. Thus, love also plays a leading role in a life of faith; indeed, further underlining the need to rediscover conversion, it must be at the height of the Holy Year.
