On April 25, as Italy commemorates "Liberation Day," the Holy See Press Office has released several itineraries detailing Pope Leo XIV's forthcoming pastoral visits to various cities across Italy.

On May 8, the Pope will commence his tour of Italy in Pompeii and Naples, marking the one-year anniversary of his election to the papacy.

He will commence the day at the Pontifical Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of the Holy Rosary of Pompeii, a site of pilgrimage for four Popes and countless individuals who assemble to offer the Supplication to the Virgin of the Rosary of Pompeii biannually, in the months of May and November.

St. Bartolo Longo, who was canonized by Pope Leo in October 2025, established the Shrine and composed the prayer utilized during this Supplication. Following the Mass, the Pope will offer this same prayer.

Pope Francis, traveling for the second time this month to Italy as Pope Leo on the 23rd, will visit Acerra, a town near Naples and Caserta with a reputation for poor waste management and is in the area referred to as the "Land of Fire." This trip comes just before the one year anniversary of the encyclical "Laudato Si" by Pope Francis that focused on the environment.

The Triangle of Death has been established due to the effects of environmental pollution on people’s health through scientific publications that demonstrate an extremely high number of people who died because of their exposure to environmental pollutants. The first Pope from the Augustinian Order will be attending Pavia on June 20 in honour of St. Augustine, whose remains are interred at the Basilica of San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro since 722 A.D.

Pope Francis is visiting the CNAO prior to his arrival at the Basilica to meet with the executives of the CNFO, the medical staff who work there, and the children who are currently being treated and their parents. CNAO is the only center in Italy using hadron therapy with protons and carbon ions for treating tumors and is also one of only six facilities in the world that offer such treatment.

The Italian island of Lampedusa has received attention from the Pope due to the island's commitment to immigrant communities. On July 4, the Pope will again visit Lampedusa; this visit is similar to his first official visit as the Pope to Italy during his time at Lampedusa in August. Details regarding upcoming visits for the Pope (in Assisi and Rimini) have not yet been announced.

The National Center for Oncological Hadrontherapy is the only centre in Italy that uses hadrontherapy with both protons and carbon ions to treat tumors, one of only six similar facilities around the world.

On July 4, the Pope will travel to the Italian island of Lampedusa , showing his closeness to migrants, as his predecessor Pope Francis had done visiting the Sicilian island, as the first pastoral visit of his pontificate.

The Pope will also be traveling to Assisi and Rimini in August, but the programmes for these Italian visits were not yet released by the Press Office on Saturday.
