Vatican Children's Summer Camp: 80 Days Around the World
The seventh edition of the Vatican Summer Camp for Kids is themed “Around the World in 80 Days” and is set for Monday, June 15 to Friday, July 31. Organized by the Governorate of Vatican City State, this camp will be open to all children of employees of both the Holy See as well as the Governorate.
The main character with kids is Mr. Charlie. He is an unconventional inventor. Mr. Charlie is assisted by Jeremy who is all robot, all human. Another very special character met along the journey is Olympia; her nationality is Greek. Mr. Charlie's ultimate objective involves finishing the journey called "Around the World in 80 Days". This experience will teach both Mr. Charlie and the kids to define a journey as more than just reaching a place but rather as an experience filled with courage, trust, and cooperation. Therefore, Mr. Charlie and the kids will learn that the true goal in life is to do things together rather than do them by yourself.
This year's theme will be an adventure! Using Jules Verne’s popular novel, "Around the World in 80 Days," Participants will experience several phases of challenge and surprise during their trips. Journeying beyond their limitations, looking through new eyes, learning more about themselves and other people will be encouraged for all participants during this journey as well. This journey will allow participants to build resiliency when dealing with adversity, find solutions through creativity and flexibility, work together as a team towards a singular goal, read about multiple cultures, curiosities, and histories, and realize that the goal of success is only achieved through growing together with others.
There are five separate groupings of children based on age. These include ages 3 through 5 (Mini Club), age 6 (Green), ages 7 - 8 (Yellow), ages 9 - 10 (Light Blue) and ages 11 - 13 (Blue).
This year (starting June 29), we introduce the Mini Club, an area designed specifically for children 3-5 years old who are enrolled in preschool. There is a weekly schedule that will provide activities for these children on a daily basis, including sports, arts, and educational workshops; performances and many small challenges each day. The entire concept of the Mini Club is housed within a separately enclosed area, the Paul VI Audience Hall, specifically designed for safety and function.
Children and teenagers will have access to the Paul VI Audience Hall and the San Giuseppe Sports Centre, which will include access to a dedicated area equipped with a fully functioning swimming pool. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in multiple activities, including recreational breaks and other sports initiatives as well as various water games, to help them enjoy themselves while learning about community values.
The care of the children will be provided by professional educators and entertainers who are working with "Tutto in una Festa" Entertainment Inc. to develop play opportunities for children and their families and will also work with male and female educators in the Salesian Community. Don Franco Fontana has been designated to oversee this initiative from the Vatican Salesian Community.
The proposed events will take place from Monday to Thursday, between 7:30 AM and 6:00 PM, and on Friday, between 7:30 AM and 2:00 PM. For more information regarding the events, please check the following webpage: www.estateragazzivaticano.it or by downloading the app.
