The Department of Museums and Cultural Heritage is renewing its contribution to beauty in this special jubilee year by inaugurating a new season of the concert series "Music in the Museums": from 27 February to 22 November, a rich calendar of thirteen evening events "in music" will be offered to visitors to the Vatican Museums and the Museum Complex of Castel Gandolfo.
The initiative, which is free and included in the admission ticket, is one of the cultural events planned for the Holy Year, in the spirit of sharing the beauty of the arts and in the name of the universality of musical language. "Unlike previous editions, the 2025 festival will kick off in February," said Barbara Jatta, Director of the Vatican Museums, " "boasting a programme that highlights a special jubilee journey through music, in harmony with the visual suggestions of the papal collections and the exhibitions promoted during this time of grace and mercy."
In keeping with past editions, and thanks to its long-standing collaboration with the Italian National Music Committee, the Pope's Museums confirm their openness to young talents from the most prestigious international music academies. Instrumental and vocal talents from all over Italy will perform live among the masterpieces of the papal collections. There are four dates on the programme that will see them take centre stage in a setting that is unique in the world for its visibility and artistic beauty. Returning again this year, under the artistic direction of CIDIM, is the acclaimed participation of musical bands, from the Vatican Gendarmerie Corps and the Pontifical Swiss Guard to the orchestras of the State Police and the Local Police of Rome. Their lively performances in the majestic surroundings of the Braccio Nuovo or in the airy Cortile d'Onore of the Papal Palace in Castel Gandolfo promise to be spectacular and engaging. Further enhancing this edition of 'Musica ai Musei' is the new collaboration with the 'Maria Di Pasquale' Cultural Music AssociationE.T.S., which , thanks also to the performance of internationally renowned artists, will enrich the event with musical contributions that will retrace seven hundred years of music history. Particular attention will be paid to jubilee themes in order to "amplify" in music, in a game of references and responses, the exhibition initiatives and research and restoration activities planned for the current year.
As part of the musical events - which see GetYourGuide as a partner of the initiative - visitors to the Vatican Museums will be able to take advantage of a guided tour service on request and enjoy a pleasant coffee break at the Cortile della Pigna bistro (Happy Hour and guide service can be booked when purchasing your admission ticket online).
The calendar and programme are subject to change due to circumstances beyond our control.
Participation is guaranteed until all available seats are filled Events start: 6:00 p.m. – Duration approximately 60 minutes
Greeting from the Director
In my opinion, the uniqueness and beauty of the Vatican collections reach sublime levels in the evening, when the golden reflections of the sunset flood the courtyards and places that have been crossed over the centuries by popes and the greatest artists in history with soft light. The emotion is amplified by the music that accompanies visitors on the notes of the most famous melodies, on an ideal walk from the banks of the Nile to Ancient Greece, from the delicate and perfect colours of Raphael in the Stanze to the powerful frescoes of Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel. All this is possible thanks to Musica ai Musei, the initiative with which the Pope's Museums renew their contribution to beauty, even in this special jubilee year. And in homage to this Holy Year of Hope, the concert programme will highlight a specific jubilee itinerary through music.
The arts in dialogue with each other, doors open to the eyes and the heart, an opportunity for those who come to Rome and want to enrich an unforgettable experience.
