Pope: At Christmas, music should be "the refuge of the soul"
The Vatican Christmas Concert: A 33-Year Tradition
The Vatican has hosted a Christmas concert for 33 years now at the Paul VI Hall. However, this year's concert will be held on December 13, 2006, at the auditorium near St. Peter's Basilica, at Via della Conciliazione.
The Pope met with all of the people who put together this event along with musicians and artists who participate in this event. He said, “Music is a companion in our journeys, in our memories, and in our actions. Music is an intimate and collective diary of all people who are involved and articulate their feelings - whether happy, sad, hopeful, doubtful, or renewal - about their journey through a simple yet meaningful manner."
Pope: The Nativity is a gift of light for our world in need of hope
The Nativity: A Beacon of Light and Hope
Pope: The Nativity serves as a beacon of light for our world, which yearns for hope.
Divine presence encounters us within the narratives of our lives.
When speaking about Christmas, Pope Leo proclaimed, “Christmas is a way to remember God chooses to reveal himself in a very human setting. He does not use the grandness of what is being created by creating massive land features; he has chosen to reveal himself in the home of an ordinary family and in your home; instead of hiding himself in a far-off, unreachable place, he has chosen to come nearer to us; and instead of remaining in an unreachable place above, he is willing to meet you where you are and engage with you through the heart of your life.”
Supporting Education in the Republic of the Congo
The funds from this year's concert will go towards a Salesian missionary project in the Republic of the Congo which aims to build a primary school for 350 children. The Pope advised us that this is part of his commitment to helping the people of the Republic of the Congo.
The Pope emphasized that this initiative serves as a reminder that genuine beauty, “when it is true to itself, does not confine itself but inspires responsible decisions for the world.”
Music as a Refuge for the Soul
With Christmas near, the Pope has said that "music should be a refuge for the spirit, allowing for private conversations from the heart to God, and that as we continue developing the spirit of our lives through God's love, we find ourselves closer and Heaven's presence becomes more evident."
